Sub-Groups
Galway City Community Forum has over the years established a number of Sub-Groups who meet regularly in between Quarterly Meetings to progress Forum policies and projects within the various policy areas.

The role of the Sub-Groups is to provide an opportunity for member groups to engage in progressing the Forum’s objectives through engaging in policy development and working to have forum policies implemented. Sub-Groups will prioritise the areas they intend to explore, based on the relevant sections of the Forum’s Strategy Plan and approved Forum policies.

Some of the important tasks to be carried out by the Sub-Groups include:

  • Provide support for the Forum’s representatives and work with them to implement the Forum’s Strategy Plan, based on an annual work plan.
  • Conduct an annual review of the implementation of the Strategy Plan.
  • Examine and develop the Forum’s policies.
  • Policy development should be informed by a process of open consultation with relevant partners.
  • Build a positive working relationship with relevant partners.
  • Monitor developments within the area and bring up questions and issues in the Forum when deemed relevant.

There are currently five active Sub-Groups:
Social Inclusion, Housing and Community Development
Transport, Infrastructure and Planning
Environmental Protection
Heritage and Unique Identity

Arts Culture and Community Recreation Space.

Galway City Sports Forum
All members of the Community Forum with an involvement in the Sports are encouraged to join the Sports Forum, regardless of whether you wish to put a name forward for nomination. Galway City Intercultural Forum
Galway City Intercultural Forum was established in 2007 in response to the increased ethnic diversity in the city and as part of Galway City Anti-Racism Strategy 2005-2008 “Towards a city of equals”. The establishment of the Intercultural Forum was facilitated by Galway City Community Forum and Galway City Partnership.

The Intercultural Forum acts as a representative voice for the many diverse cultures now living in Galway City. It seeks to provide a formal platform for intercultural dialogue between local communities and works to increase the participation of immigrants and ethnic minorities in the development of our city.

More than 40 groups have already joined the Intercultural Forum and the Forum warmly welcomes new members from all ethnic and cultural groups in Galway City. For further information please log on to www.galwayinterculturalforum.ie or e-mail communityforum@galwaycity.ie.
