GCCF COMPLIMENTARY WALKING AND CYCLING SURVEY

The focus of the survey is on issues highlighted in Community Forum’s approved policies, which have been developed over the past years in consultation with the Forum’s membership. For nearly ten years the Forum has been working, via our representatives on City Council committees and the City Development Board, to improve access for pedestrians, cyclists and public transport users in Galway.

This survey is intended to build on this work and feed into the proposed Galway City Walking and Cycling Strategy. The survey will take about 10 minutes; this small gift of your time is vital to our work in making Galway a better place for all of us.

Notes
The survey is subject to the following limitations:

Vulnerable road user perspective: This survey was compiled by Pedestrians and Cyclists to explore issues of interest to those groups. It is not intended to explore the issues of other interest groups.

Best practice: The survey is based on established best practice as set out in Forum policy documents and other documents such as the UK's "Manual for Streets" or the Irish "National Cycle Policy Framework".

Prior knowledge: Some questions seek to establish the level of knowledge of survey participants. The survey results cannot be interpreted accurately unless we can distinguish between the opinions of those who have already read up on the field and those who have not.

Resource limitations: If Galway gets funding for walking or cycling under Smarter Travel that funding will not exceed EU20 million over 5 years. This survey is not intended to provide a platform to express a vision of what could be achieved with Dutch or Danish levels of investment over 30 years.

All suggestions and comments on the Walking and Cycling Survey are welcome to galwaycyclist@yahoo.co.uk.
